Rocky and Jessica
In 2023, the couple found themselves expecting their sixth baby. At a routine OBGYN visit at 14 weeks gestation, an ultrasound showed a physical anomaly on their baby. The doctors diagnosed their preborn daughter with a Cystic Hygroma – a fluid filled sack on the back of her skull.
Although their daughter had no other physical issues, they were given a 10% chance of survival and encouraged to terminate their pregnancy via abortion.
We pondered aborting our baby. It’s not standard practice to go against your doctor’s medical advice. They are the experts. Not a friend, family, nor church member told us to keep our baby, understandably so. Everyone told us they would support our choice, but we shouldered the burden of making that decision alone. What we really wanted was permission to say yes. The first sliver of hope we found was a community of women in a forgotten online forum telling their stories of choosing life.
That’s why our daughter’s middle name is Hope. We gave her back what was taken from her.”

Ultimately, at 21 weeks gestation, Jessica would develop a rare medical condition where she was forced to deliver their premature baby. On October 26, 2023 their daughter Shiloh Hope was born. She was 2lbs 13oz and looked like her daddy. She was held in the arms of her earthly father as she met her heavenly father.
While the Welch’s didn’t get their miracle ending with Shiloh, they do not regret choosing life for their daughter. They were with her every step of the way, honoring her life, and never abandoning her.
It is our hope through sharing stories of choosing life – no matter the story line – that women will empower other women to choose life.
